In Reference 1, Louisiana Energy Services (LES), dba Urenco USA (UUSA), requested an exemption from the 24-hour reporting requirement in 10 CFR 70.50(b)(1) for situations that require the imposition of additional radiological controls for greater than 24 hours2.777778e-4 days <br />0.00667 hours <br />3.968254e-5 weeks <br />9.132e-6 months <br /> due to an unplanned contamination event inside an established controlled area.
The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) responded with a request for additional information (RAI) on September 25, 2023 (Reference 2). The Enclosure provides UUSA response with the additional information you requested in RAI-1 and RAI-2. Reporting estimates are consistent with those previously provided by the Nuclear Energy Institute (NEI) on behalf of its fuel cycle facility members (Reference 3).
The Enclosure 1 contains Proprietary Information and should be withheld from public disclosure in accordance with 10 CFR 2.390(a)(4). The Enclosure 2 Affidavit supports this withholding request.
