Rick,

Due to the amendment of Japanese regulation, the quality management chapter has been separated from SAR and submitted as separate document. Not including the separate document was an omission in the initial application. The explanation of quality control methods is provided in the attached document.

GP-01: Supplemental Information Needed

CAUTION: This email originated from outside of the Department of Transportation (DOT). Do not click on links or open attachments unless you recognize the sender and know the content is safe.

Good morning, Rick,

The staff is currently reviewing the GP-01 and it appears that the SAR has removed all contents applicable to Quality Assurance (QA).

The reviewer noted that during the last review of the GP-01 submitted in August 2020 this information was contained within Chapter III of the SAR and Handling and Maintenance was in Chapter IV. However, it appears the Quality Assurance information previously in Chapter III has been completely deleted in the new SAR and Handling and Maintenance has been moved into its place from Chapter IV to III. It does not appear this is discussed at all in the SAR change document.

The staff also scanned the document, did word searches for Quality, Assurance, Management, ISO 9001, JEAG 4111. etc. with no results.

The staff needs to know if there were any changes to the quality assurance portion of the application and why the application does not include information about the QA of this package. The application should include this information or if the previous information related to QA applies to this revision of the package.

Please contact me of you have questions about this request.

Thanks in advance, Norma Garcia Santos Project Manager Storage and Transportation Licensing Branch Division of Fuel Management Office of Nuclear Material Safety and Safeguards
