Dear Mr. Boyle:

TN Americas LLC, on behalf of TN International (TNI), requests a U.S.

Department of Transportation (DoT) revalidation of the Competent Authority of Japan, Certification for Approval of Package Design for Transport of Radioactive Materials, Identifiction Mark: J/2009/AF [1] in accordance with §173.473.

The request being submitted is to revalidate J/2009/AF, which is a Type AF packaging meeting the applicable requirements for fissile material packages

E-62007 January 24, 2023 Page 2 of 2 in Section VI of the International Atomic Energy Agency Regulations (IAEA) for the Safe Transport of Radioactive Material, SSR-6, 2018 Edition. Note that the previous revalidation was according to SSR-6, 2016 Edition with the approval identification as J/2009/AF-96, whereas the approval certificate for Japan is now issued as J/2009/AF due to changes in SSR-6, 2018 Edition for approval of package designs.

A copy of the Competent Authority of Japan, Certification for Approval of Package Design [1] is provided as Enclosure 1. The Safety Analysis Report [2] is provided as Enclosure 2, along with the packaging design drawings as Enclosure 3 and a Summary of Changes to the SAR [3] as.

The current GP-01 revalidation expires in August 2023. A new revalidation and renewal to extend the validation is requested to support ongoing shipments that will originate in Japan and transit the U.S. en route to a destination in Europe.
