OF JUNE 22, 2022, CLOSED MEETING WITH FLORIDA POWER AND LIGHT TO DISCUSS PLANNED LICENSE AMENDMENT REQUEST RELATED TO FIRE PROTECTION PROGRAM CHANGES (EPID L-2021-LRM-0009)
On June 22, 2022, the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff held a partially closed meeting with representatives of Florida Power and Light Company (FPL or the licensee) to discuss a planned license amendment request (LAR) related to fire protection program changes to support the reactor coolant pump (RCP) replacement project for the Turkey Point Nuclear Generating Unit Nos. 3 and 4. The meeting was closed to the public due to discussion of proprietary information. The meeting notice and agenda for this meeting, dated June 9, 2022, are available in the Agencywide Documents Access and Management System (ADAMS) at Accession No. ML22161A034. A list of attendees is enclosed. No regulatory decisions were made at this meeting.
The following topics were discussed during the open portion:
Purpose and background Licensing approach using NRC Regulatory Guide 1.205, Risk-Informed, Performance-Based Fire Protection for Existing Light-Water Nuclear Power Plants Content of the planned license amendment request (LAR)
Probabilistic Risk Assessment (PRA) Analysis Schedule of the planned LAR During the closed portion details of the data supporting RCP seal failure modes were discussed.
