Submittal of Safety Analysis Report for the CR3MP Package, Rev. 0, Docket No. 71-9393, EPID L-2021-NEW-0003
Dear Mr. Saverot:
Orano Federal Services LLC (Orano FS) hereby submits the Safety Analysis Report (SAR) for the CR3 Middle Package (CR3MP) for approval as a Type B(U)-96 Package under a Special Package Authorization (SPA). The CR3MP will transport a segment of the Crystal River 3 decommissioned reactor vessel to a disposal site. The enclosures to this submittal include an affidavit pursuant to 10 CFR 2.390, a proprietary (non-public) version of the SAR, and a non-proprietary (public) version of the SAR.
From prior communications, the NRC has requested the desired expiration date which is to be applied to the SPA. Orano FS plans to provide that expiration date in a future correspondence, but no later than with our responses to the Requests for Additional Information (RAI). If the NRC needs it sooner, please let us know.
Due to an expected lengthy fabrication process, it is important for Orano FS to begin packaging fabrication as soon as possible. For this reason, issuance of the RAIs (at which time Orano FS can judge our risk of fabrication commencement) is of prime importance. Orano FS respectfully requests issuance of RAIs by December 31, 2021.
