U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Public Meeting Summary Dated: 6-9-2021
Title:
Public Meeting to Discuss Public Comments on Draft Regulatory Guide (DG)-1361 Meeting Date: May 13, 2021 Location: Webinar Category: Category 3 - Observational Meeting Purpose of the Meeting: The purpose of this meeting was to discuss public comments submitted to the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) by Nuclear Utilities Group on Equipment Qualification (NUGEQ) and other external stakeholders regarding DG-1361, "Environmental Qualification of Certain Electrical Equipment Important to Safety for Nuclear Power Plants. The NRC requested public comments on DG-1361 via Federal Register Notices 85 FR 81958 and 86 FR 10133, respectively.
General Details: This was a Category 3 Observational Meeting in which attendees had an opportunity to observe the NRC performing its regulatory function and discussing regulatory issues. A portion of the meeting was open for public comments. However, the comment period for DG-1361 closed on April 18, 2021 and the NRC was not soliciting new comments during the meeting.
Summary of NRC Presentation: The NRC staff presented an overview of the recent history regarding the issuance of DG-1361 to solicit public comments. The NRC noted that several stakeholders had requested a public forum to present an overview of select comments and concerns that were submitted to the NRC during the public comment period. The NRC welcomed the discussion but indicated that they would not be able to give specific feedback during the meeting.
Summary of Public Feedback: External presenters were representatives from NUGEQ, Curtis-Wright, GLSEQ, and NuScale. Slide presentations from the meeting can be accessed from the NRCs Agencywide Documents Access and Management System (ADAMS) as identified below.
No significant public comments were received during the open portion of the meeting.
Action Items/Next Steps: In the coming months, the NRC will review the comment submittals, develop responses, and evaluate the need for a second public meeting regarding DG-1361.
