SUBJECT:

UNITS 1 AND 3 (TACs 69888, 69890)

By letter dated September 30, 1988, TVA responded to NRC Bulletin (NRCB) 88-04,

" Potential Safety Related Pump Loss." NRC staff reviewed this submittal and by letter dated March 1, 1989, requested additional and clarifying information with regard to Browns Ferry Nuclear Plant (BFN), Units I and 3. Specifically, NRC staff requested a schedule for long-term resolution of the problem describea in NRCB 88-04 for BFN, Units 1 and 3. TVA a s also requested to clarify all other actions required by NRCB 88-04 for BFN, Units '1 and 3. On i April 5, 1989, TVA submitted the additional requested information.

The NRC staff has completed its review of the April 5, 1989 submittal and finds it acceptable. You are reminded that Item 5 of NRCB 88-04 requires a written response within 30 days of completion of the long-term resolution actions which describes the actions taken. This response must be submitted to the NRC at ,

least 30 days prior to the restart of BFN, Units 1, 2 and 3.

As described in NRCB 88-04, you should document and maintain for at' least two years an evaluation of your actions in resposiding to this bulletin. These records may be subject to future auditing.
