- NRC Bulletin 88-04, " Potential Safety Related Pump Loss" In reference 1, NRC requested that TVA provide an additional response to its submittal on NRCB 88-04 (reference 2), to include the following information for units 1 and 3:

a.

Summarize the problems and the systems affected.

b.

Ident'fy the short-term and long-te"m modifications to the plant operating procedures or hardware that have bean or are being implemented to ensure safe plant operations.

c.

Identify an appropriate schedule for long-term resolution of this and/or other significant problems that are identified as a result of NRCB 88-04.

d.

Provide justification for continued operation particularly with regard to General Design Criterion 35 of Appendix A, 10 CFR 50.46.

U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission APR 051989 Af ter careful review of NRCB 88-04 and TVA's response, we believe that our submittal adequately addressed the items listed above, with the exception of item c, for units 1 and 3.

In order to provide additional clarification of our response item 4.(c) of reference 2 should be changed to read:

4.(c) SCHEDULE FOR LONG-TERM RESOLUTION TVA's Design Calculation Review Program for essential calculations, commitment items 78, 78a, and 78b of the BFN NL, lear Performance Plan (BFNPP) Volume 3, Revision 1, is required to be completed before restart of each unit.
