CORRECTIONS TO THE GENERAL ELECTRIC LOCA ECCS EVALUATION MODEL.

On December 15, 1976, we were informed by General Electric of several errors in the plant calculations performed in accordance with the approved GE LOCA ECCS Evaluation Model. Additional information pertaining to the effect of each of these errors on typical plant applications was provided in a meeting on January 12, 1977. At these meetings GE claimed that the errors were only errors in code input and did not constitute model changes to the approved evaluation mode. The net effect of implementing these corrections would be a small reduction in the MAPLHGRs for some operating BWRs.

1 Subsequent to the above discussions, we were infonned by letter from A. J.

Levine to D. F. Ross on January 20, 1977, that a logic error existed in the REFLOOD 03 computer program under certain conditions. This letter requested that we approve use of the REFLOOD 04 computer program which corrected the logic error.

The four errors discussed at the referenced meetings and the proposed use of REFLOOD 04 have been reviewed. We have concluded that the corrections to the GE Evaluation Model are acceptable as discussed in the attached safety evaluation.
