SUMMARY
OF MEETING TO DISCUSS LOADS BEING USED IN THE MARK I CONTAINMENT SHORT TERM INVESTIGATIVE PROGRAM s On August 21, 1975, a meeting was held in Bethesda with General Electric e
Company (GE), Teledyne, Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI)
'# representatives and the NRC staff. The purpose of the meeting was j to discuss the loads that are being considered in the firsp phase.
%[ i (short term program) of a program designed to evaluate the Maik I containment considering new loads that have been identified since the original design. Enclosure 1 is a list of attendees.

SUMMARY
ic : c A. James, GE, summarized the primary LOCA loading phenomena shown in enclosure 2, and discussed the bases for concluding that the secondary loading phenomena shown on enclosure 3 are not likely to be sigrtificant.
GE representatives stated that they have recently run tests in a 1/12-scale model of a Mark I torus and measured the-gross loads on the torus.
This work was an extension of work performed by EPRI. These GE tests were run with an unvented model and showed that the compression effect dampens out pool swell seen in the earlier vented EPRI tests. 1 GE also stated that a probabilities analysis shows the following dis-tribution of downcomer lateral loads during steam condensation:
Downcomer Grouping Load per downcomer, kips One downcomer 5.5 I Group of 5 downcomers 4.47 !
Group of 12 downcomers 3.16 Group of 96 downcomers 1.72
\
The NRC staff stated that there is a concern as to whether the condensation !
oscillatory loads which occur at a frequency of about 4 Hz could excite any components includin, ]
