Dear Mr. Utley:
SUBJECT:
INTERGRANULAR: STRESS' CORROSION CRACKING (IGSCC) INSPECTION PROGRAM FOR RELOAD 5 0UTAGE v
Re:
Brunswick Steam Electric Plant, Unit 1-By.' letter dated October 31, 1986, you submitted your plans for the-intergranular stress corrosion cracking (IGSCC) inspection program to be performed during the Brunswick Unit 1 Reload 5 outage which began February 14, 1987. -You indicated that the IGSCC inspections will be performed by EPRI-qualified ultrasonic testing (UT) personnel using the General Electric Company automated SMART UT system where physical clearances allow. The proposed IGSCC inspection program consists of (1) inspecting all class 1 austenitic stainless steel welds susceptible to IGSCC (75 welds), (2) upgrading and inspecting a minimum of 11 overlay repaired welds, and (3)
-inspecting the Inconel butter welds in the recirculation and core spray systems in accordance with IE Notice.84-41.
We have completed our r.3 view of the proposed Reload 5 outage IGSCC inspection program as described.in your October 31, 1986 letter. Based on our review we find that your program meets the guidelines of Generic Letter 84-11, and is, therefore, acceptable.
' Sincerely, George Rivenbark for Daniel R. Muller,. Director BWR Project Directorate #2 Division of BWR Licensing cc:
