Subject:

Radiation exposure due to PT of cask welds -Reply Mr. Martin, On the PT exposures:

I received information late yesterday, from Ken Lambert (Rill point of contact for Point Beach HP).

I For the first cask loaded recently (fourth overall)- this cask was partially drained at the time of PT: '

PT of the shleid lid, root pass only = 5 milli-personRem PT of the structurallld, root and groove (final) passes only = 55 milli-personRem For the second cask loaded recently (fifth overall)- cask was full of water at time of PT:

PT of the shleid lid, root pass only = 5 milli-personRem PT of the structurallid, root, root pass repair and groove (final) passes = 30 milli-personRem i just checked again yesterday with ANO, and they don't have that information for me yet. They ho,ned to have it the week of 11/2 (they were busy loading a cask the week of 10/26). Palisades didn't do PT at this time on their previously loaded casks. I will let you know when I receive anything more.

On tne UT exposures:

The update from Point Beach tells me that their UT personne! received 40 mrem total on the second cask (fifth overall) they loaded, which was full of water inside. Personnel received 160 mrem on the first cask (fourth overall) which was partially drained of water inside due to other requirements (drain down time commitments). They willlikely track UT and PT exposures separately when they load their third cask in November.

Previousff, I reported that ANO stated they averaged 10 mrem total per cask (water inside and outside the cask during the UT). Also, Palisades averaged 45 mrem per cask (dry inside and out).

Any word on the PT exposures? I'll take estimates if you don't have the actual data. I'm looking at this as part of a DPV on cask welds.

Thanks.
