BEAVER VALLEY UNIT 1 - TRANSMITTAL OF FIRE PROTECTION TECHNICAL EXEMPTION (TAC 56566)

We issued two fire protection Exemptions on March 14, 1983 (TAC 11111) and an additional eight exemptions on August 30, 1984 (TAC 53380) as a result of your requests. By letter dated January 14, 1985, and supplemented by letters dated October 16, 1985 and October 28, 1986 you requested additional exemptions from the fire protection regulation and deviations from our guidelines.-

Fe have co.pleted our-review of your request. Enclosure 1 is the document granting all three exemptions you requested, as well as approving one deviation from our guidelines. Exemptions are granted for:

(1) charging pump cubicles separation and fire suppression, (2) control room safe shutdown cables separaticn and fire suppression, and (3) main steam valve room equipment separation.-

We found the. deviation of fire door design from our guidelines acceptable.

Details may be found in the safety evaluation, Enclosure 2.

The deviation of fire damper design is unacceptable; details may also be found in the safety evaluation.-

This completes our action on your submittals. Please contact your pro,iect manager, Mr. P. Tam if you have any questions.

A copy of the notice of exemption is being filed with the Office of the Federal Register for publication.
