1 MEMORANDUM FOR: a Funk, Jr., Office Allegation Coordinator I FROM: G 06 . Shear, Chief, Fuel Cycle and Decommissioning Branch

SUBJECT:

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION REGARDING GOODYEAR AEROSPACE CORP.

LICENSE NO. SNM-1461, DOCKET NO. 070-01489 (terminated)

(AMS NO. RIII-94-A-0013) and (AMS NO. RIII-94-A-0026)

On March 22, 1994, I received a call from Mary Grimmett expressing concern that hert name was going to be provided to Goodyear by The State Fire Marshall.

Ms. Grimmett stated that she had provided information to the State Fire harshall regarding a 1,000 gallon under ground gasoline storage tank at the Goodyear facility. She expressed concern that Goodyear would retaliate against her if they knew her name. Apparently the Fire Marshall (David Reeder) Indicated that they had to use hey'name when they investigate.her concerns. I explained that we have no jurisdiction regarding the state fire marshall.

She also stated that a Mike Bolas of the Ohio EPA called her;and told her to stay away from a.Ms. Chris Borella, an individual who has expressed concern over alleged radioact,1ve contamination of the Uniontown landfill in Ohio, see AMS No. RIII-A-0026. .She,, stated that he (Bolas) also told her to not share any secrets with Ms. Borella.

On March 23, 1994, Darrel Wiedeman of my staff called Ms. Grimmett to have her .

clarify her' concerns which were relayed to me during my harch 27, 1994 telephone conversation with her.;Ns. Grimmett indicated that she recently found documents which show that during the IlT70's the company df'r ectly adjacent to Goodyear, known as Gen Corp., spilled approximately 6,500 gallons ,

of styrene (non-radioactive) into the Goodyear cooling pond known as Wing Foot Lake. Ms.' Grimmett was aware the NRC has no regulatory jurisdiction over cher.,ical spills ~and.under ground storage tanks; however, she wanted to provide use with additional examples of the environmental pollution that has taken place in the past in this area.

Our review of these latest telephone conversations do not indicate any new information or allegations that would change the course of action outlined in our allegation action plan and agreed upon during the allegation board.
