Subject:

RJ Reynolds Sr-90 Hauni Sources in Puerto Rico '

Last week's inspection revealed:

1. No violations identified.
2. Local RSO needed more knowledge on how to react to a leaky source without having to depend on corporate RSO who, at best, would be 6 hours6.944444e-5 days
0.00167 hours
9.920635e-6 weeks
2.283e-6 months
away from the 'acility in the event of an emergency. Corporate RSO ensured me he would train local RSO on how to react to a leaky source.
3. Vendor indicated expected source life to be 10 years; all but 3 of the licensee's 24 sources at the facility (at 3 sources per device) were 13 years old.

The issue of expected source life has come up before and seems not to go away, SH uld procedures for source and device reviews and regionallicensing procedures be rf.v. sed to address this issue? Perhaps this should be discussed during the next tr:econference, Please keep me posted regarding Hauni's respose to Steve's letter that you and I discussed last week. Thanks.
