Subject:
McGuire Nuclear Station, Units 1 and 2 Docket No. 50-369, 50-370
Dear Mr. Denton:
By letter dated August 3,1984, Duke Power identified and provided Technical Justification for several deviations from 10CFR 50 Appendix R.
Subsequently, the NRC staff has requested additional information in order to complete the evaluation of the deviations (reference letters from Mr. B.J. Youngblood to Mr. H.B. Tucker March 10, 1986 and May 29, 1986). One of the deviations involved the potential collapse of seismic steel due to a fire. As the result of discussions between our respective staffs, Duke agreed to conduct an indepth technical analysis of the potential collapse of seismic steel due to fire, with four specific areas of turbine driven auxiliary feedwater pump room; wall between nuclear concern:
service water pumps, elevation 716'; wall between component cooling pumps, ele-vation 733'; wall between ec=ronent cooling pumps, elevation 750'.
The schedule discussed indicated that a six month period for study would be acceptable, thus the report will be submitted by January 31, 1987. This letter is for informational purposes and to confirm verbal agreements. No review or re-sponse is requested. Other deviations will be covered by separate correspondence.
Very truly yours, lf$
. M Hal B. Tucker l
