Supplementary Information:

Tne Office of Nuclear Material Safety and Safeguards (NMSS) is revising the licensing program codes and inspection priorities under the NRC License Tracking System (LTS).

The LTS is ased to track the status of licenses for approximately 5900 NRC licensees authorized to conduct industrial, medical, academic and other nonreactor operations. The radiation safety programs authorized by each license are assigned primary and secondary program codes. The primary program code indicates the licensee's principal use of material.

The secondary code (s) may be used to indicate other significe't uses. The program codes are periodically updcted to reflect recent changes in regulatory requrements. A proposed revision of the LTS program code descriptions and inspec0on prionties is enclosed for review. The proposed changes consist of the following:

a. A new code to track gamma knife licenses;
b. A new code to track waste treatment services more complicated than compacting and repackaging. This would cover special physical and chemical treatments; g
c. A new code to track exempt distribution of C-14 urea capsules.

d. Revised codes for possession-only licenses to clarify that operations have permanently ceased, and to change the inspection priority from 3 to 2. More frequent inspections are intended to prevent loss of controlincidents at shut
