Dear Mr. Buxton:

This refers to your request dated March 30, 1983, to registse your inline ash meter.

Our review of your submitted information yielded a need for additional infbruntion/ clarification of the following items:

! do not lend themselves to be reproduced legibly. Therefore, send us a diagram or photo that can be reproduced legibly.

o Although you provided historical data on the devices in use in l

England, we need a copy of the test results of testing that were performed on at least one device. This testing should correlate with the ANSI N538 standard enti.tled, " Classification of Industrial Ionizing Gauging Devices." Provide also the ANSI M538 classification desi0 nation. This testing should demonstrate that the device will maintain its containment integrity during the specified conditions of use.

The program should -identify any mechanical or material discrepancy.

that would be allowed between the units and the manufacturing specifications. An example of an acceptable quality control program can be found in Appendix 8, ANSI M538.

o Provida a paragraph which summarizes the important facts pertaining to safety and the results of the safety analysis performed by the ma9ufacturer/ distributor. Include references to the appropriate ANSI, NBS or NRC standards used in the safety analysis.

We have enclosed a copy of " Guidelines for Applications for Registration of Devices,"

to help you formulate your response.

Once we have completed the device review, we will forward the license amendment application to our Region II licensing section. To keep Mr. Robert Stewart-infoma tion will send copies of our correspondence to him.
