G. Harrison Requested Completion Date: N/A Review Status: Complete Enclosed is the fire protection section of the Safety Evaluation Report' of the San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station Units 2 and 3.

The Fire Protection Program was reviewed in accordance with Appendix.A to Branch Technical Position ASB 9.5-1.

The Fire Protection Program will be implemented prior to initial fuel load-ing. The applicant has installed alternate shutdown panels to assure safe cold shutdown without reliance on the cable spreading room, the control room, the zone 5 cable riser gallery or the ESF Switchgear Room.

Based on our review, we find that the applicant's fire protection program with

' improvements to be made before fuel load will meet the guidelines of Appendix A to Branch Technical Position APCSB 9.5-1, meets General Design Criterion 3, and is, therefore, acceptable.
