FIRE PROTECTION SER - SAN ONOFRE 1 (TAC 11114)

Facility: San Onofre 1 Licensee: Southern California Edison Company Docket No.: 50-206 Responsible Branch: ORB #5 Project Manager: S. Nowicki Reviewing Branch: Chemical Engineering Reviewer: S. Hudson In the San Onofre 1 Fire Protection Safety Evaluation Report, we. identified a number of items regarding fire protection which could not be evaluated until additional information was provided. Attached in Enclosure 1 is our evaluation of the following items:

3.1.l(5) Fire Detection System 3.1.2(a) Fire Pump Test Features 3.1.2 b) Fire Water Supply 3.1.5 b) Water Suppression System 3.1.5 d) Water Suppression System 3.1.6 Foam Suppression System 3.1.7(a) Gas Suppression System 3.1.7(b) Gas Suppression System .

3.1.15(8) Deluge System For Station Service Transformers 3.1.15(9) Doorway of 480 Volt Switchgear Room Based on our review, we find that the licensee's proposed modifications regarding Items 3.1.1(5),3.1.2(a),3.1.5(b),3.1.5(d),3.1.6,3.1.7(a) 3.1.7(b) and 3.1.15(8) are acceptable. The licensee's modification regard-ing Item 3.1.2(b) is not acceptable and additional modifications are necessary as stated in the enclosure. Additionally, the licensee has. proposed an alternate modification for Item 3.1.15(9) which is not equivalent to their original commitment and, therefore, is not acceptable. The licensee should either fulfill their original commitment or make additional modificaticns as stated in the enclosure.

The licensee has also provided additional information regarding Item 3.2.3,

" Turbine Building Structure." This item is under review. We will report our findings in a subsequent report.
