4 MEMORANDUM TO: J. W. McComick-Barger, Chief j Decommissioning Section 1 i~

, 'FRON: W. G. Snell

Senior Radiation Specialist l .

SUBJECT:

TRIP REPORT: SITE VISIT AT ENGELHARD CORPORATION,

, JUNE 13, 1995

i. On June 13, 1995. I visited the Engelhard Corporation site at 1000 Harvard l l -Avenue, Cleveland, Ohio., The purpose of the visit was to familiarize myself j with the site prior to review and approval of their Remediation Plan. During 4 j the site visit I met with Mr. Andy Kopas, Manager Environmental Services, l

, Engelhard, and Mr. Ted Adams, B.'Koh & Associates, Inc., a representative l from the contractor who.will perform the work. Also joining us was  ;

Mr. Frank Talbot, Bureau of Radiological Health Services, Ohio Department of i

!' Health. l

}

After a cursory review of the Remediation Plan prior to the site visit, my impression was that overall, it was an acceptable plan. After discussing the i

. proposed remediation and touring the site, the few questions I had from my  :

initial. plan review were satisfactorily answered. It appears to be a fairly i straight forward remediation, and no suprises are anticipated. The only  !

complicating factor is the fact that the remediation of the Chevron building will be carried out simultaneously. For this reason Engelhard is. anxious to conduct.their characterization as soon as possible in the unlikely event that work conducted by Chevron were to spread contamination onto the Engelhard

' site.

I stated I would complete my review as soon as possible, hopefully'within a week, and get back to them. I also stated I would be discussing the Plan with the Mr. Talbot from the State of Ohio for any comments or concerns the State may have.
