September 3, 1985 Trojan Nuclear Plant Docket 50-344 License NPF-1 Mr. John B. Martin Regional Administrator, Region V U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission 1450 Maria 1.ane, Suite 210 Walnut Creek CA 94596-5368

Dear Mr. Martin:

NRC Consnunications Installation at Trojan EOF In response to the letter of June 20, 1985 from F. A. Wenslawski, PGE has prepared cost estimates for the installation of NRC emergency communication circuits in the Trojan Emergency Operations Facility (EOF). The current EOF is located in the auditorium of the Trojan Visitors Information Center (TVIC).

Two options were considered:

Option 1: Supply cabling and connectors as requested, but without con-duits. Cables would be free-run from the NRC area in the existing EOF (near auditorium stage) outside through the west door when needed. (See Attachment 1.)

Estimated Cost: $400 Option 2: Run cabling in conduit from near NRC area along wall to the back of the TVIC auditorium (west side). Connection to the outside will be made through the west door (see Attachment 2).

Estimated Cost: $750 8509100124 850903 PDR ADOCK 05000344 i F PDR i TG

. Portland General ElectricCompany Mr. John B. Martin September 3, 1985 Page 2 It should be noted that a new EOF is scheduled to be completed by December 31, 1986. The new EOF will be located in an area adjacent to the existing EOF in the TVIC Building. The NRC comununications installation in the present EOF will be removed when the new EOF is constructed. A cost estimate was also performed for installation of NRC conununications circuits in the new EOF. The circuits would terminate in an external connection on the south side of the building (see Attachment 3). The estimated cost is

$3,340.

In addition, as requested, permission is hereby given for the NRC to utilize the 500-ft meteorological tower on the Trojan site, and the micro-wave tower on the Rainier microwave / radio site near the Plant for the temporary installation of radio repeaters in the event of an emergency at the Trojan Nuclear Plant.

If you have any further questions concerning NRC communication installa-tions in the Trojan EOF, please contact J. W. Lentsch.

Sincerely,

^:

Bart D. Withers Vice President Nuclear Attachments c: Mr. Lynn Frank, Director State of Oregon Department of Energy i
