Dear Mr. Delaney:
N4 The Harshaw Chemical Co mpany wishes to obtain a license for purchasing Uranium-Trifluoride. We would need one pound of this material at the present time. If Uranium-Trifluoride is not available we would need Uranium-Tetrafluoride and powdered metal.
This material is to be used in the research of growing Calcium Fluoride synthetic crystals to be used in the Maser device. There would be a concentration of less than one percent of source material in the end crystal.
Film badges developed and evaluated by Nuclear-Chicago are available for determining total exposure. A Cutie Pie, Victoreen Model 740B and a Beckman Model KX-5 are at hand to measure radiation intensities.
The operation would create little dust and virtually no vapors containing uranium.
We are also interested in the cost of this material and a source for purchasing it. Would it be necessary for our customers to have a license to purchase a crystal containing this amount of uranium?
A prompt reply to our questions would be appreciated as our Research Department is anxiously awaiting this matetial to begin their work.
