Dear Mr. Price:

Items 3, 4, and 5 of your letter of February 10, 1965, to our Mr. E. C. Stewart apply to the Catalyst-Ceramic Division of The Harshaw Chemical Company and were corrected shortly after Mr.

Jim Roy's inspection about November 16, 1964.

Item 3 As indicated, we did have a 50 millicurie cesium 137 source in use since 8-3-61 without a proper license.

This fact we became aware of about 9-24-64 at which time ve applied for a license which was issued to us on 10-20-64.

On 9-30-64 we issued a purchase order to Industrial Electronics to wipe test the source.

Wipe tests were performed by them on 12-11-64 and the unit was found to be safe.

Item 4 Two cesium 137 gauges were installed and later relocated by Harshaw personnel.

In order to prevent these units being moved again by unauthorized personnel, the units have been clearly marked as containing radioactive sources, departmental and maintenance supervisors have been instructed that only authorized personnel may handle these gauges, and notices have been posted on the gauges that only authorized personnel shall work on them.

Item 5 We have a statement-from Industrial Nucleonics that they did perform lab inspection on the sources on 1-17-64.

We received them on 1-22-64.

They performed the tests on 12-11-64 and reported them to be in safe condition.

The responsibility of keeping a log on both of these units has been given to one man.
