, A Vendor Manual Control Program is being developed and ' implemented to ensure that plant procedures-are ke7t updated Uith current vendor information._ Nu'elear Central Office Personnel have been assigned to Browns Ferry to1 initiate this program. This program will ensure (1) all controlled Vendor Manuals are maintained,at the same revision level as the master controlled Vendor Manual, (2) all controlled Vendor Manuals are under revisica control, and (3) all new vendor Manuals and revisions are evaluated by the cognizant section(s) before utilization.

Select critical structures, systems, and components (CSSC) and non-CSSC Vendor Manuals (referenced in plant instructions or'as selected by plant management) are now scheduled to be placed under control.

Specifically, manuals scheduled to have a " controlled" status are:

1. Vendor Manuals referenced in the reference see ion of plant instructions
2. Vendor Manuals to be used for troubleshooting on CSSC equipment The' Vendor Manual Control Program will be implemented in a phased approach. In the first phase, approximately 50 General Electric (GE)

Manuals previously identified as " stand alone" documents used for troubleshooting CSSC equipment are scheduled for control.

Establishment of the plant master copy for this phase will be achieved by April 30, 1985 The technical review of the plant master copy against the referenced instructions for these documents is scheduled for completion by June 30, 1985. This technical review ensures plant instructions are consistent with applicable vendor recommendations.

1 In the second phase, approximately 400 Vendor Manuals currently referenced in plant instructions (and any other manuals added as a reference) are scheduled to be added to the Vendor Manual Program in the following order:

1. Other CSSC GE Vendor Manuals referenced in plant instructions
2. CSSC Vendor Manuals, other than GE Manuals, referenced in plant instructions The estimated completion date for the second phase is early 1988. This Vendor Manual Program includes establishment of a master copy through a literature search and in some cases interfacing directly with the vendor to resolvo known discrepancies. After establishment of the master copy, the cognizant section will review the content of the Vendor Manual against plant instructions to ensure plant instructions are consistent with applicable vendor recommendations.

Concurrently, during the first and second phase, all new manuals received onsite will be evaluated for inclusion in the control .

program.
