GUIDANCE CONCERNING " WEEPING" SPENT FUEL CASKS f
This is in response to your memorandum of November 17,'1983 on this subject.

I Ue have set up an all-day meeting with the Department of Transportation for December 13, 1983 to develop guidelines for applying 49 CFR 173.443, the effective regulation on cask contamination, and to develop some preliminary reconrnendations for a future corrective rule-making.
Your staff has been invited to send a representative to the meeting. Region I, NMSS, and RES also have been invited to send a representative.
Wewillexpeditepreparation, coordination,andissuance' of formal guidance in this matter subsequent to the December 13 meeting.
