GUIDANCE CONCERNING " WEEPING" SPENT FUEL CASKS f This is in response to your memorandum of November 17,'1983 on this subject. )
I Ue have set up an all-day meeting with the Department of Transportation for December 13, 1983 to develop guidelines for applying 49 CFR 173.443, the effective
! regulation on cask contamination, and to develop some preliminary reconrnendations for a future corrective rule-making. Your staff has been invited to send a representative to the meeting. Region I, NMSS, and RES also have been invited to send a representative. Wewillexpeditepreparation, coordination,andissuance' of formal guidance in this matter subsequent to the December 13 meeting.
