PEACH BOTIOM AIOMIC POWER STATION NARRATIVE
SUMMARY
OF OPERATING EXPERIENCES DECEMBER 1979 UNIT 2 End-of-cycle coastdown had begun on December 2, with a loss of approximately 3 MWe per day.
Power level at the end of the month was approximately 93% (1030 MWe). On December 31, a controlled shutdown was begun in order to repair the core spray flow test valve which has been inoperable for some time.
)
Among other work to be done during this outage, Primary Containment Isolation will be provided with diverse initiation signals and positive valve operation indicction will be completed on all relief valves.
UNIT 3 Unit 3 continued to operate at approximately 75% power. This was due to the inoperable main steam isolation valve (MSIV) on the A main steam line. This valve and the other one in series with it were both closed and load was limited to the rated flow through three operable main steam lines. The Unit was removed from service on December 7 to accommodate adjustment to the MSIV valve operator. Additional work performed during this outage included providing Primary Containment System with di"erse signals, complete installation of positive valve position indication on all relief valves, and investigation of seismic qualification of Control Rod Drive hangers inside the drywell. The Unit was returned to service on December 12.
Rated power was reached on December 13.
On December 14 the operatorr initiated a manual scram due to an instrument transient which occurred when the static inverter was being returned to service.
Instrumentation indicated that reactor pressure was increasing at a significant rate. The feedwater pumps had locked up and the main turbine bypass valves were open and then went closed.
Indications were that a pressure transient was occurring. The problem with the inverter could not be duplicated. The Unit was returned to service on December 15 and reached full power on December 18.
