SUBJECT:
NUREG-0612, Control of Heavy Loads at Nuclear Power Plants
REFERENCE:
G-84454 Letter from P. Wagner to 0.R. Lee dated December 5, 1984
Dear Mr. Johnson:
PSC has been requested to reevaluate the control of heavy loads at FSV using a load of approximately 1 ton as guidance for what constitutes a " heavy load." PSC agrees to do this work and due to the large number o' handling systems,- is planning to submit the evaluation in two phases.
Phase I will identify all cranes, loads, and load paths.
In addition, Phase I will eliminate loads that weigh less than one ton from the evaluation, eliminate temporary trollies, and identify safety-related equipment under load paths. The scheduled submittal date for the Phase I report is June 15, 1985.
Phase II of the heavy load evaluation will include the review of alternate shutdown paths, will document the analysis of cranes and the analysis of lifting devices, structural impact analysis, and defining of safe load paths as required.
Phase II will also include a schedule for proposed Technical Specification changes, proposed plant modifications, and interim compliance measures as required r/005'1 0 gzynw ORnwaL 8503110020 850205 Tb 4 W PDR ADOCK 05000267 P

based on the heavy load evaluation. The scheduled submittal date for the Phase II is August 15, 1985.
This schedule has been developed based on the large number of load handling systems at FSV capable of lifting at least a one ton load, and the time required to perform an adequate review of each system.
