Pursuant to the requirenents of your February 11, 1983 lettar, Georgia Power Canpany hereby sutnits for your review and approval the enclosed progran for the inspection of the recirculation and other reactor coolant boundary stainless steel piping systecs' for the 1984 maintenance / refueling outage, three (3) months prior to the start of the outage. Seven (7) ccpies of the proposed progran cce enclosed for your convenience.
%e inspection pro 3ran includes our criteria for weld selection, ultrasonic examination, flaw exanination, and weld joint ' overlays.
These criteria are consistent with 'the intent of NRC Generic Letter 11,
" Inspection of IER Stainless Steel Piping," dated April 19, 19S4, also includes our justificaticn for the adayuacy of weld i
overlays for a secorv3 cycle of operation.
We Hatch Unit 1 maintenance / refueling outage is tentatively _ scheduled to begin September 1,!1984.
Because of the extensive pre-outage manpower planning associated with this effort, any questions regarding the enc 1ceed' progran should be brought to our attention at your earliest convenience.
Should it be decided after. sulaittal of the enclosed progran that the i
subject stainless steel piping systens will be replaced in lieu of inspection, Georgia Power Company will notify you accordingly.
