RESPOtEE:

Staff reconnendation #1, Iow-Iow Set (LIS) relief logic, has been implemented on Unit 2.

LIS relief logic will be implemented on Unit 1 dirity an cutage schedlled to begin in September, 1984.

Unit 2 Technical Specification revisions and related technical details were sent to the NRC in albnittals dated Febulary 23, 1983, and April 19, 1983.

Similar charges for the Unit 1 Tech Specs will be subnitted in conjunction with the modifications to Unit 1.

Staff reconnendation #2, lowered water level setpoint for MSIV closure from Ievel 2 to Level 1, was inplemented on Unit 2 in conjunction with LIS relief logic modifications.

Modifications to Unit 1 will be inplemented in conjunction with the LIS relief logic modifications dirirg an outage sched11ed to begin in Septenber,1984.

GeorgiaPower d Director of M1 clear Reactor Regulation Attention: Mr. John F. Stolz, Chief Operating Reactors Branch No. 4 Jiane 1,1984 Page 2 Staff recomendation #3, increased simer margin, is not alrrently being

' considered.

We believe Plant Hatch has adegaate simer margin and further increase is not justified.

Staff recomendation #4, preventative maintenance program, has been implemented through servicing of the Safety Relief Valves (SRVs) by Target Rock Corporation dirirg periodic recertification of the valves at Wyle Labs. Target Rock proced2res for SRV maintenance are periodically revised to be alrrent with Service Information Letters (SILs),

recomendations from the Target Rock technical staff, and requirements of NIC Bulletins.

(2) Which, if any, of the staff recomended modifications you propose to implement.

RESPOEE:

All staff recomended modifications except #3, (imreased simer margin) will be implemented as discussed in the response to yalr glestion #1.

(3)-Whether you have implemented or propose to inplement any of the other mdifications or actions disaissed in NURm-0737, Item II. K.

3. 16 or in the BWR Owners Group (BWROG) report.

RESIONEri :

1 Of the thirteen modifications listed in NUREG-0737 Item II. K. 3. 16, GPC has conchided that none are appropriate for Plant Hatch.

GPC participated in the BWROG evahlation described in the report BWROG-8134 dated March 31, 1981.

GPC has implemented or plans to inplement the following recomendations from the EWROG report:

(numbering corresponds i

to that of the report)

(1) (a)

Iowered RPV water level isolation setpoint for MSIV cloaire i

Implementation of the ATIS is expected to redice spurious trips and isolations die to alrveillance testirg and other calses.

(6)

Control of pnalmatic alpply pressure to SRVs:

GPC has implemented the following inprovements to the drywell pnalmatic system:

1) revised setpoint for an existirg low presaire alarm to alert the operator to loss of pneumatic alpply to the SRVs,
2) installed a high presaire alarm to alert operators to excessive pneumatic alpply presaire which caild calse misoperation of the SRVs, and 3) installed a relief valve on the drywell pneumatic alpply to enaire that the maxim 1m allowable presaire will not be exceeded.

Additional pipirg modifications are being implemented to inprove the reliability of the lorg term pneumatic alpply to the SRVs.

'Itese modifications will be installed dirirg the carrent Unit 2 outage, and daring the Unit 1 outage schediled to begin in September, 1984.
