PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS OF LILCO WITNESSES i

Four miscellaneous matters related to LILCO's filing are discussed below.

Identification of witnesses on answers.

Throughout the testimony filed today by LILCO, as has been our practice in the past, where particular witnesses sponsor an answer, their names are indicated in brackets.

If no witness names appear in brackets prior to an answer, it means that the answer is spon-sored by all the witnesses on the panel.

Professional qualifications of LILCO witnesses.

Most of LILCO's witnesses sponsor more than one piece of testimony.

In order to avoid needless duplication, we are not attaching copies of witnesses' qualifications to each piece of testimony.

Rather, we are filing the professional qualifications of all LILCO witnesses on the Group II issues in one volume.

This volume includes the qualifications of witnesses whose testimony will be filed on March 21, 1984,. as well as those whose testi-(

mony is being filed today.

New York State Plan.

In its testimony in response to Contention 92, LILCO includes the tables of contents of the nine volumes that compose the New York State emergency plan.

One copy of the nine-volume set is being delivered this day to the Licensing Board.

LILCO will provide additional copies of the State plan to the Board if the Board wishes.

i Because (1) we believe that the other parties already have copies of the plan or access to a copy, (2) the plans are public documents,

and (3) they are voluminous, LILCO is not sending copies of the nine-volume set to the service list.

LILCO intends to offer the State plan into evidence during the litigation of Conten-tion 92, and at that time we will provide three copies of the plan for the record.

Contention 51.

On February 20, 1984, counsel for LILCO wrote to counsel for Suffolk County, the Shoreham Opponents Co-alition, the North Shore Committee, and the Town of Southampton, sugaesting that no Jitigable issue of fact re-mained under Contention 51 and that therefore the intervenors might wish to withdraw it.

Counsel for Suffolk County tele-phoned yesterday afternoon to say that the County was indeed willing to withdraw Contention 51.

LILCO was unable to ascer-tain from County counsel whether the other parties, including the State and the NRC Staff, have agreed to the withdrawal.

Consequently, we have filed our testimony on Contention 51 today out of an abundance of caution.

If it becomes clear that all the parties agree to the withdrawal of Contention 51, then it should be a simple matter to close the record on this issue without a hearing.

Yours very truly, Kathyj.B.N fa E 8 A '
