Joseph M. Farley Nuclear Plant - Units 1 and 2 Review of CRDR Program Plan Gentlemen:
By letter dated October 31, 1983, Alabama Power Company submitted its Control Room Design Review (CRDR) Program Plan to the NRC.
The program plan was developed using guidance provided by the Nuclear Utilities Task Actioa Committee (NUTAC) on CRDR. The NRC provided its review of the program plan i
by letter dated March 9, 1984. The NRC review was based on the guidance provided in NUREG-0700 and draf t NUREG-0801.
The main points of NRC concern were:
- 1) function and task analysis, 2) control room instrumentation inventory, 3) assessment of Human Engineering Discrepancies (HEDs), 4)

method of selection of design improvements, 5) verification that improvements resolve HEDs without introducing new HEDs, and 6) coordination of the CRDR with other NRC mandated programs. Alabama Power Company responded to the NRC's concerns by letter dated April 3,1984.

Power Company requested that an NRC review be performed of the CRDR program plan based upon the NUTAC documents which were provided with the April 3 1984 letter.
Concurrent with the NRC review, Alabama Power Company is developing a detailed comparison of the CRDR program plan to the NUTAC documents explaining any deviations that exist. Upon completion of the NRC review, Alabama Power Company is prepared to meet with the NRC Staff to discuss any concerns that may still exist.
