F-1000 Revision 4 Page 7 of 13 Spec. Change Notice No. 7 Spec. Change Notice Page No. 2 4.2.3.11 At locations where Thermo-Lag interfaces with existing Kaowool wrap, the following transition procedure shall be used (see also Detail #3, Ref. 3.13):

a) Pull Kaowool back 6 to 10 inches to expose transition point.

b)

For Conduit: Coat conduit with 1/8" Intumastic 285 coating.or trowel grade Thermo-Lag 330-1 (minimum 4 inches on each side of transition point).

c) For Tray:

Fill interior of tray with Kaowoo'l 1" (1 ~

hr.) or 1" (3 hr.) below top of tray for minimum 4" on each side of transition point. Coat the Kaowool with 1

~

1" or 1" (minimum) trowel grade Themo-Lag (or cover with a.1" or 1" Thermo-Lag board, sealed around the edges), up to to the walls of the tray, ensuring that only Kaowool (and not cable) is coated.

If Thermo-Lag board is used, remove stress skin first.

d) Reinstall Kaowool back to the transition point.

e) Themo-Lag unwrapped portion of raceway to meet the 1

Kaowool at the transition. point.

f) Install minimum 8 inch wide band of Thermo-Lag (minimum 4 inch on each side of the transition point) over the Kaowool/Thermo-Lag transition point. Thickness of l

Themo-Lag band shall be equal to the thickness of the Themo-Lag on the wrapped raceny section, g) Caulk the edges of the band on both sides with trowel grade Thermo-Lag 330-1.

4.2.3.12 Maximum 12" spacing for cable tray bands may be increased to 30" in cases where interferences dictate.

In'these cases, a PCR shall be generated'and approved to properly document the installed condition. When 12" spacing is exceeded, one piece of THERMO-LAG shall be used and bands shall be placed near each end of the single piece of THERMO-LAG. Also the edges shall be sealed with stress skin and trowelable THERMO-LAG. Construction Department Administrative Procedure CDAP-00-018 shall be used to control deviation from'the 12" criteria.

4.2.3.13 Internal and external banding of raceway shall use stainless steel bands that are 1/2 inch (minimum) to 1 i

inch (maximum) wide and 0.020(-0,+0.01) inches thick.

Tie wire used shall be 18 Ga. minimum stainless steel.

Banding is the preferred method.

4.2.3.17 At locations where the Thermo-Lag protection for a tray ends, and the tray continues unprotected (i.e., trays crossing fire zones where one' requires raceway protection and another does not, or tray with tees where a branch does not require protection), the transition point must be sealed in accordance with the following procedure (see l

also Detail #7, Ref. 3.13):

a) At the transition point, seal the tray internally with 1" minimum trowel grade Themo-Lag.

b) Weave a Kaowool blanket between and over the cables, 9 or 18 inches, beyond the transition point.

c) Coat the exposed Kaowool with 1" or.1" thick (minimum) trowel grade Themo-Lag, (or cover with a i-or 1" Thermo-Lag board, sealed around the edges - remove l

stress skin from board), up to the walls of the tray, ensuring that only Kaowool (and not cables) is coated.

l d)

Following the procedure of Paragraph 4.2.3.15, Thermo-Lag the tray for an addition 9 or 18 inches beyond the transition point.

e) As in (a) above, seal the tray internally with trowel

. grade, 6nsuring the seal extends from the exposed cables (at the Kaowool) to the top Thermo-Lag board.

i 4.2.4 The final dry film thickness of the Themo-Lag 330-1 material shall be one-half inch (1/2 in." when a one hour rating is specified tad one inch (1 in.) when a three hour rating is specified. The tolerance for thickness is -0"/+1/4".

4.2.4.1 The maximum Thermo-Lag thicknesses listed in Section 4.2.4 may be exceeded at troweled seams and edges. Also, a maximum of 2" but no less than overlapping of panels by(i.e., to cover splice bolts on i" or 1" is acceptable tray connections, Detail #1, Ref. 3.13).

4.2.4.2 Thermo-Lag thickness may be reduced below the minimum values in Section 4.2.4 to avoid isolated cases of interference provided:

a) At least half of the required thickness is installed, b) The reduced area is not greater than two square inches.
