SUBJECT:

EMERGENCY OPERATING FACILITY FOR MARBLE HILL This responds to your memorandt.m of January 4,1983 with regard to the location of the Emergency Operations Facility (EOF) for the Marble Hill Nuclear Generating Station, Units 1 and 2.

Attached to your memorandum was a letter from Public Service of Indiana (PSI) dated December 21, 1982, stating that they planned to build a primary EOF radiologically shielded to provide a PF of 25 and that they did not plan to establish a backup EOF as required by Supplement 1 of NUREG-0737.

On March 22, 1983 we met with representatives of PSI at the NRC Region III Offices with regard to,their. EOF and in this meeting they stated that they plan

' to construct a primary E0F located approximately one mile from the plant and to have backup EOF located approximately 12 miles from the plant.

It is our understanding that PSI' intends to meet the requirements of Table 1 Supplement 1 of NUREG-0737 rather than follow the course outlined in their letter of December 21, 1982.
