Farley Nuclear Plant - Unit 2 I.E. Bulletin 80-11 Masonry Walls Unit 2 Operating License Condition 2.C.(16)

Gentlemen:

In confirmation of the information provided verbally to you and your staff by Alabama Power Company this afternoon relative to Unit 2 Concrete Block Wall 2CBW-34, the only safety related equipment on this wall is the Unit 2 power supply to the 600 volt motor control center bus IF which provides control power to portions of the control room train A air conditioning. If a seismic event occurred and the wall failed to the extent that this power supply was lost, this motor control center can be supplied by a power feed from Unit 1. j The change in power feed from Unit 2 to Unit 1 can be accomplished in less than two hours. It is the engineering judgment of the designer that control room habitability will be maintained during this time period even given a simultaneously failure of the train B air conditioning equipment. In addition, the door to the Technical Support Center located immediately adjacent to the control room can be opened. The Technical Support Center air conditioning is independent of the control room air cc,nditioning and would supply

, ventilation to the control room. Also sufficient supplies of breathing l

air bottles are available for the two hour time period. In the extreme case, the units can be brought to a hot standby condition from the hot shutdown panels located in the auxiliary building outside the control room in both units. Based on the above, Alabama Power Company does not feel that the failure of the wall 2CBW-34 could in any way impede the safe shutdown of the Farley units.

If you have any questions, please contact me.

Yours very truly, i

)DI L Cl .
