Dear Mr. Eisenhut:

In response to Mr. Varga's letter of April 21, 1980 concerning masonry walls in Category I structures, Alabama Power Company comitted (by ny letters dated September 2, 1980 and October 22,1980) to complete re-evaluation of nasonry walls at Farley Nuclear Plant Unit 2 by December 15, 1980.

Incidental to this effort, it has been determined that some deviations from design exist in Unit 2 Auxiliary Building concrete block walls. An evaluation is in progress to determine the extent and significance of these deviations. This condition was reported verbally to Mr. Robert Martin (NRC-Region II) on December 9,1980 with confirming letter to fir. J. P. O'Reilly on the same day. As a consequence of this on-going evaluation, we will be unable to meet our commitment date of December 15, 1980 to respond to your letter. Subsequent to the completion of our current efforts, we will supply the additional information comitted to in my earlier letters.

If there are any questions, please advise.

Very truly yours, OAD F2. ^Clayton, Jr.
