Gentlemen:

Our letter of August 29, 1978, discussed the applicability to Plant Hatch Unit 2 of the commitment in the " Evaluation of the Hatch Nuclear

' Plant Fire Protection Program" to install disconnect switches to isolate required equipment from the cable spreading room in order to provide assurance of the ability to place the reactor in cold shutdown in the event of a fire in the cable spreading room. The conclusions reached in that letter that no modification to the plant was required, and that plant procedures would be revised to account for erroneous signals which could be produced if a fire in the cable spreading room should occur are equally applicable to Unit 1. ,

Attached are copies of the revised " Shutdown from Outside Control Room" procedures for Units 1 and 2. If you have no questions concerning

, these procedures, we will consider the commitments on page 92 and Table e 'sg 3 of the " Evaluation of the Hatch Nuclear Plant Fire Protection Program" '

which call for revised shutdown procedures and disconnect switches to -

aid in remote shutdown to be met.

" click" is heard.

C. Remove the combination spring charge / maintenance handle and return to storcge position.
