SUBJECT:
REPORTING THE STATUS OF PENDING INVESTIGATIONS 4
Reference:
Memo from Victor Stello, Jr., to Office Directors and
-t Regional Administrators, re: same subject as above, dated July 27, 1987.
1 As comunicated to Ben Hayes in my memorandum of August 5,1987, I anticipate that SMUD will be ready to restart the Rancho Seco facility some time in January 1988. The 01 Monthly Status Report, dated July 31, 1987, shows two investigations that Region V feels could affect the restart of Rancho Seco.
These investigations are:
, $q s Violation of SMUD Managers in the Control of dbi / ' '
1.
No. 5-86-010 Radioactive Effluents.
l 2.
No. 5-86-011 Falsification of Cable Pull Cards.
I understand that two Comission meetings will be held to address the readiness of Rancho Seco for restart. The first meeting is currently scheduled during the week of October 12th, 1987 and the second meeting is tentatively planned during the first part of December 1987.
Since Investigations No. 5-86-010 and No. 5-86-011 are expected to be completed in September 1987 and November 1987, respectively, and since two Comission meetings will be held, I recomend that the Comission be briefed on these Investigations starting with the October 1987 meeting.
