WALNUT CRtE K.CALIFORNI A 94frDs DEC 1G M U m'b m L-FR0 Offit,E. LECG V MEMORANDUM FOR:

Robert G. Marsh, Director, Office of Investigations Field Office Region V FROM:

J. B. Martin, Regional Administrator

SUBJECT:

PRIORITY OF INVESTICATIONS Recently we reviewed the. status and priorities of investigations pursuant to a request of the Headquarters Investigation Referral Board. A copy of our comments to that Board was forwarded to you on December 12, 1986.

As stated in our response to the Board, we view the pending lavestigations associated t

with Rancho Seco (5-86-10 and 5-86-11) to be of the highest priority.

SMUD's current schedule calls for restart of Rancho Seco in May 1987.

If this schedule is maintained the Commission will probably want to review Rancho Seco restart status in the March-April, 1987 time frame.

Since both of the above referenced 01 investigations involve activities (Liquid effluents and electrical cable separation) which impact upon a restart decision, it is important, if at all possible, that they be completed by no later than March 1987. The results of these investigations should be factored into the Commission's restart decision.
