GPU Nuclear Corporation

ATTN: Mr. Eugene E. Fitzpatrick

Oyster Creek Nuclene Generating Station

P. O. Box 388

Forked River, New Jersey 08731

Gentlemen:

Subject:

Inspection Report No. 50-219/90-17

This refers to the routine safety inspection conducted by Mr. J. Furia and Ms.

L. Peluso of this office on September 18-21, 1990, of activities authorized by

NRC License No. OPR-16 and to the discussions of our findings held by Mr. J.

furia and Ms. L. Peluso with Mr. J. Barton and other members of your staff at

the conclusion of the inspection.

Areas examined during this inspection included transportation of radioactive

materials and solid radwaste processing, as described in the NRC Region I

-Inspection Report which is enclosed with this letter. Within these areas, the

inspection consisted of selective examinations of procedures and

representative records, interviews with personnel, and observations by the

inspectors.

Within.the scope of this inspection, no violations were observed.

As discussed during the axit interview on September 21, 1990, we request that

you provide this office within 45 days of the date of this letter, a schedule

for the identification and disposal of the contents of the five tanks located

in the old radwaste building.- These tanks are the floor drain collector tank,

waste neutralization tanks NV05A and NV05B, concentrated waste tank and the

spent resin tank.

Notable strengths.within the radwaste and transportation program were

identified in the areas of the Radwaste Shipping Department staff and the

training programs for both the Radwaste Operators and Radwaste Shipping staff.
