This refers to the routine safeguards inspection conducted by Mr. R. J. Bailey

of this office on October 13-16, 1981 at the Pilgrim Nuclear Power Station,

Plymouth, Massachusetts of activities authorized by NRC License No. DPR-35 and

to 'he discussions of our findings held by Mr. Bailey with Mr. Mathis at the

co..clusion of the inspection.

Areas examined during this inspection are described in the Office of Inspection

and Enforcement Inspection Rep rt which is enclosed with this letter. Within

these areas, the inspection consisted of selective examinations of procedures

and representative records, interviews with personnel, and observations by the

inspector.

Our inspector also verified the steps you have taken to correct the items of

noncompliance brought to your attention in the enclosure to our letters dated

June 1 and July 24, 1981. We have no further questions regarding your action at

this time.

Within the scope of this inspection, no items of noncompliance were observed.

In accordance with 10 CFR 73.21 of the NRC's regulations, documentation of

security measures for the physical protection of special nuclear materials and

certain plant equipment vital to the safety of production or utilization facilitGes

are deemed to be Safeguards Information.

Each person who produces, receives or

acquires Safeguards Information is required to ensure that it is protected

against unauthorized disclosure. Therefore, except for the report cover sheet.

the enclosure to this letter will not be placed in the Public Document Room and

will be distributed pursuant to 10 CFR 73.21(c).
