Dear fir. Carey:

Your letter dated November 23, 1981 forwarded requests for relief from specific inservice inspection requirements and for revision of the inservice inspection program for Beaver Valley Power Station, Unit No.1.

The staff has completed its review of your requests and, based on this review, has determined that your proposals are acceptable. Relief from specific requirements of the ASf!E Code,Section XI is granted to allow altornate examination as described in the enclosed safety evaluation report.

Additionally, the sta#f has determined that the proposed changes to your inservice inspection program are appropriate in light of the allowed alternate examinations. You should note that it is not necessary to obtain staff approval to revise the inservice inspection program for your facility when the purpose of the revision is simply to incorporate the provisions of relief or alternate testing that has been authorized by the staff.

Please feel free to contact your assigned Project Manager if you have any questions.

Sincerely, Orig-"z mu A W 5.A.Varsa Steven A. Varga, Chief e
