In a letter to you, al this subject, dated November 25, 1981, South Carolina Electric and Gas Cmpny (SCE&G) comitted to provide additicnal informaticn cn several outstanding items of our Ccntrol Boom Design Review. Bis letter gevides that additicnal informaticn, with each item idmtified by the number used in the discussicn of 'IMI Item I.D.1 in the Virgil C. Sumer Nuclear Staticn Safety Evaluaticn Report (SER) Supplemmt No.1, Agil,1981.

7.0e Fire and Security Alarm Systs te fire and security alarm system has becn canpleted and Essex Corp. has dcne the hunun factors review. me review identified two goblms. Se first goblem involved an incorrectly installed bezel which partially obstructed an alarm message. We bezel is now fitted pcoperly correcting this pcob1m. %e seccnd proble involved a dirty alarm screen resulting in glare from overhead light. 'Ihe screcn was cleaned correcting this Iroblm.

9.0f Renute Shutdown Panels obdificaticns to the remote shutdcun pnels have been cmpleted and Essex Corp. has date the human factors review. A thorough review of the panels was dcne including ccntrols, displays, castrol display integratial, labeling, lighting and g90/

comunicatio1. We backfits included rearranging three V I indicators and three ccntrollers into A-B-C order, nudifying som reverse acting cxntrollers to make them direct acting, and revising indicator scales and device labels for imgaved lD readability md cmsistscy. Both the normal PC lighting and the atergency DC lighting levels were measured and found to be betweel 32 and 44 footcandles, exceeding the reconreided minimum of 30 footcandles. obthods of commicaticn betweet the renote shutdown area, the control room, and other plant areas required for rennte shutdom include hand held radios, sound powered pholes and the plant Inge system. 'Ihe subcooling nulitor and reactor vessel level indicators were incorporated into the Reactor Coolant System secticn of the M1in Cottrol Board during the ccntrol display arrangemmt and demarcaticn review. 'Ihe subcooling nulitor indicators and reactor vessel level indicators and recorder were located cn the right side of this secticn adjaceit to the Reactor Coolant System tenperature, Iressure and flow instrumentaticn. 'Ihe demarcaticn, labeling and scale design were date in accordance with the Labeling, Demarcaticn and Mimic Specificaticn and the Vertical Indicator Specificaticn. 'Ihe result is an effective grouping of indicators and castrols which are easy to ideitify and read.
