SUPPLEMENT TO CAUSE DESCRIPTION THE OUT OF SPECIFICATION VALUSS OF THESE FIVE RELAY TIMERS (MANUFACTURED BY AGASTAT, MODEL 7012) IS ATTRIBUTED TO INSTRUMENT DRIFT. ON JANUARY 18, 1983, '-

THE TIMERS WERE INDIVIDUALLY RETESTED WITH THREE OF THE FIVE RELAYS FOUND TO BE WITHIN THE ALLOWABLE LIMITS. THE REMAINING TWO TIMERS: ESW PUMP 2E EXCEEDED THE MINIMUM ALLOWABLE TIME BY 0.37 SECONDS AND SI PUMP 2N EXCEEDED THE MINIMUM ALLOWABLE TIME BY 0.14 SECONDS DURING THE RETEST. THE TWO RELAY TIMERS WERE

! READJUSTED AND VERIFIED TO OPERATE WITHIN THE ALLOWABLE LIMITS.

l THE RELAY TIMERS HAD BEEN CALIBRATED PRIOR TO THE SURVEILLANCE TEST ON DECEMBER 22, 1982, AND LEFT WITHIN SPECIFICATION. PAST HISTORY ON THESE AGASTAT RELAY TIMERS IS THAT THE TIMERS DO NOT REPEAT THEIR SET TIME CONSIS-TANTLY. A CONSCIOUS DECISION WAS MADE BY THE SUPERVISOR IN CHARGE NOT TO RECALIBRATE THE RELAYS SINCE THEY HAD JUST BEEN CALIBRATED PRIOR 10 THE SURVEILLANCE TEST AND THE RECALIBRATION WOULD NOT ASSURE CONTINUED PERFORMANCE WITHIN REQUIRED TOLERANCES.

FRESENTLY AN ENGINEERING REVIEW IS BEING CONDUCTED ON A NEW TYPE OF SOLID l

STATE RELAY. DEPENDING ON THE RESULTS OF THIS REVIEW, THE EXISTING RELAY TIMERS MAY BE REPLACED.
