Dear Mr. Keppler:

This is to confirm the verbal report given at 1400 hours0.0162 days <br />0.389 hours <br />0.00231 weeks <br />5.327e-4 months <br /> on January 12, 1983, to Mr. Eric Swanson of your staff, at which time he was advised that during testing of the reactor coolant pump fire protection water system it was found that flow was not indicated to reactor coolant pumps 1 and 4 when the system was actuated.

Investigation of this event revealed that the reactor coolant pump fire protection water system flow strainer associated with reactor coolant pumps 1 and 4 was completely plugged. The strainer was removed, cleaned and returned to service.

Attached to this letter is the follow-up Licensee Event Report form and supplement, giving the details of this event and corrective action taken. According to Technical Specification 6.0, Administra-I tive Controls, Section 6.9.1.8, Prompt Notification with Written Followup, the attached material constitutes a complete report of this event.
