0? STER CREEK: CORE SPRAY EFFECTIVENESS IN A STEAM EfNIRONMENT (EXISTING SPARGER)
As part of our safety evaluation regarding continued operation with the existing ring design core spray spargers, we are reviewing the issue of spray cooling capability in a post-LOCA steam environment.
The following additional information is required to resolve technical concerns developed during this review.
1.
A determination by test and analysis of the minimum spray flow to each bundle in the core for single and dual sparger operation in a post-LOCA steam environment.
2.
An evaluation of spray cooling capability for each bundle with flow less than 1.8gpm/ bundle, taking into account expected rod power and initial temperature and. justifying the use of spray coefficients assumed in your ECCS analyses.
Please provide this information by November 30, 1982 for staff review prior to the cycle 10 refueling / maintenance outage at which time a decision will be made to either grant or disallow the deferment request of the new Core Spray Sparger replacement to the following Cycle 11 outage.
