SUBJECT:
SUMIMRY OF CONFERENCE CALL HELD WITH WISCONSIN ELECTRIC POWER COMPANY REGARDING MASONRY WALL PRISM SAMPLE MODIFICATION On August 25, 1981,f4RC staff members held a conference call with WEPC0 and their consultants to discuss problems encountered in obtaining prism samples from masonry wall #104. A list of attendees is attached. The analysis of these samples is part of Action Item #1 from a list of 21 action itens identified by the NRC staff during a June 9-11, 1981 site audit of masonry walls conducted at Point Beach. WEPC0 agreed to meet the provisions of these 21 action items to satisfy the staff's concerns on the Point Beach masonry walls.
The chief concern expressed by WEPC0 and their consultants during the subject conference call was the inability to obtain a prism sample from wall #104 or identify an acceptable alternative wall. The difficulties stemmed from restricted physical access at this and other similar walls thereby preventing use of the wall cutting equipment and various health physics concerns associated with obtaining samples from contaminated area walls.
As an alternative, WEPC0 proposed taking an increased number of samples (7) from the four remaining walls identified in Action Item #1. This was found acceptable by the NRC staff with the provision that WEPC0 document the reasons and basis for this modification to Action Item #1 in its report on prism s' ample results taken from the remaining four walls.
