IDENTIFICATION OF OCCURRENCE:

I Decay Heat Ptnp DHP-1 A was inoperable contrary to T.S.3 5.2.

CONDITIONS PRIOR TO OCCURRENCE:

Mode 1 Power Operation (1000.

2 DESCRIPTION OF OCCURRENCE:

At 0600, Decay Heat Pump was removed from service for preventative maintenance.

At 1100 on August 5,

1981, during the preventative maintenance, it was discovered that the. pump shaft would not rotate freely.

Maintenance was initiated and operability was restored at 1930 on August 5,1981.

DESIGNATION OF APPARENT CAUSE:

The cause of this event is attributed to worn bearings. The cause of j

the worn bearings is indeterminate at this time and is under investi-i gation.

ANALYSIS OF OCCURRENCE:

Redundancy was provided by ECCS subsystem B.

There was no effect upon the health or safety of the general public.

CORRECTIVE ACTION

j The bearings were replaced.

t FAILURE DATA:

This was the first occurrence for DHP-1A,and this is the seventeenth event reported under this Specification.
