On January 21, 1981, the liquid nitrogen storage tank level decreased to less than 650 gallons. This constitutes operation in a degraded = ode of LCO 4.2.12 and is reportable per Fort St. Vrain Technical Specification AC 7.5.2(b)2.

EVENT

DESCRIPTION

At 0830 hours0.00961 days <br />0.231 hours <br />0.00137 weeks <br />3.15815e-4 months <br /> on January 21, 1981, with the plant operating at approx 1=ately 40:: thermal power, the liquid nitrogen storage tank level decreased celow the 650 gallon limit of LCO 4.2.12.

A minimum level of approximately 400 gallons was reached at about 1000 hours0.0116 days <br />0.278 hours <br />0.00165 weeks <br />3.805e-4 months <br />.

A shipment of liquid nitrogen was received at 1020 hours0.0118 days <br />0.283 hours <br />0.00169 weeks <br />3.8811e-4 months <br /> which restored the liquid nitrogen storage tank level to at acceptable level by 1250 hours0.0145 days <br />0.347 hours <br />0.00207 weeks <br />4.75625e-4 months <br /> on January.21, 1981.

Operability of the icw temperr. cure absorber and the dewpoint moicture =oni-tors was maintained throughout the occurrence.

CAUSE

DESCRIPTION:

The decrease in liquid nitrogen inventory was due to heavy sysre: usage, unavailable nitrogen recondensers, and late arrival of a scheduled liquid nitrogen delivery.

CORRECTIVE ACTION:

- Receipt of the scheduled liquid nitrogen delivery restored the liquid nitro-gen ' storage tank le rel to acceptable levels. A second load of liquid nitro-gen was ordered and subsequently delivered to top off che storage tank.

No further corrective action is anticipated or required.
