Gentlemen:

Thank you for your letter of August 25, 1980, informing us of steps you

have taken to correct the item of noncompliance concerning activities

under NRC Operating License Nos. NPF-4 and NPF-7 brought to your attention

in our letter of June 24, 1980. We have examined your corrective actions

and have no further questions at this time.

Your recommendation that the referenced item of noncompliance be deleted

or changed to an open item has been evaluated by both Region II and the

NRC Headquarters OIE staff.

After review of the document submitted in support of that recommendation

by the laboratory performing radioiodine analyses of milk samples, it is

still our position that the milk preservation technique was not compatible

with the analytical method.

Therefore, the item of noncompliance will

remain as written.

We appreciate your cooperation with us.

Sincerely,

.
